Marvel Legends Deadpool Rainbow Squad Set Up for Order!

At this point, we’ve seen almost everything Marvel Legends that Hasbro revealed last year at SDCC 2017 released in stores—with a couple of key exceptions. We’re still waiting for a wide release of the much-anticipated X-Men Marvel Legends Apocalypse series, but another (sort of) X-related release just came available this spring. Marvel Universe collectors have had little to enjoy so far in 2018, but the Marvel Legends Deadpool Rainbow Squad box set is now up for order!

Deadpool Rainbow Squad Marvel Legends Box Set Mercs for MoneyWhen Hasbro said last year that the long-running and beloved Marvel Universe/Marvel Legends 3.75” line was “resting”, they weren’t kidding. There hasn’t been a single new wave of the series since early 2017, and no new Marvel releases at all in that scale since the GamerVerse Mega Man X & Iron Man two-pack late last summer.

But finally, there’s a little bit of love appearing for the 4” Marvel collectors out there. Not only is the GamerVerse Spider-Man & Mr. Negative two-pack (first shown at the 2018 Toy Fair) finally getting solicited, but a five-pack revealed at SDCC 2017 is also seeing the light of day: the Deadpool Rainbow Squad!

Basically, this release is a box set of five differently-colored 3.75” Deadpool action figures. Believe it or not, this crazy set is actually comic-based, with members of the Mercs for Money (don’t ask) donning the rainbow Deadpool costumes a few years back.

Marvel Legends Deadpool Rainbow Squad FiguresWe’re unfortunately not getting the whole team here (no orange or pink Deadpools? Boooooo!), but the set does include:

  • Classic Deadpool (Red)
  • Slapstick (Yellow Deadpool)
  • Terror (Purple Deadpool)
  • Foolkiller (Blue Deadpool)
  • Solo (Green Deadpool)

On the accessories front, the Rainbow Squad Deadpool box set includes five pistols, five knives, and five pairs of katanas (ten total swords). Considering the surplus of empty space in the packaging, I’m not sure why they hid some of the swords on characters’ backs, but 20 accessories is pretty solid for any Marvel figure box set release. Good stuff.

Deadpool Mercs for Money Rainbow Deadpool CostumesOverall, this is far from the most captivating box set that Hasbro has ever released, but I’ll admit that I get a little thrill out of wacky, whimsical repaints like these. I’m also just glad to see that we’re getting something in the Marvel Universe scale in the first half 2018. For me, this set’s a keeper.

Amazon received their stock of the Mercs for Money/Rainbow Deadpool sets a few days back and sold out at $64.99 per set, and only has 3rd party seller inflated prices of $100+ available as of writing. However, EE just opened up their own orders for the set at $59.99, which seems like a decent price to lock this set in at in case it turns out to be a low run.

Any remaining 3.75″ Marvel Legends collectors out there excited about or planning to pick up this set? Is the lack of new releases in this scale starting to make you lose interest in it and convert to 6″ collecting, or are you remaining a 1:18 scale collector? And would anyone besides me be interested in seeing the last two colors of Deadpool released to complete the rainbow?
