NYTF18: McFarlane Toys

McFarlane Toys made a strong showing at this year’s Toy Fair, spotlighting several new licenses and an exciting return to all-out action figures.

The former came with the recently announced Call of Duty and Hello Neighbor licenses. Call of Duty encompasses all the games released so far with McFarlane kicking the action figure line off with two classic characters: John “Soap” MacTavish and Simon “Ghost” Riley from the “Modern Warfare” titles. As mentioned, these will be fully articulated action figures, that complete change reflected with the new blister card packaging McFarlane will start using on ALL their figures.

The summer release of Krieg and Lilith from Borerlands will be two of the first figures to feature the new blister card packaging. It’s ironic because Krieg is a HUGE figure (still priced at $19.99) that actually could have used a box. Regardless, the packs look sharp and are a cool callback to when McFarlane action figures ruled the toy aisles.

Destiny will get Vanguard leaders this Spring, followed by three new Destiny 2 Guardians this Fall. A deluxe 10-inch Crucible Handler and Titan Shield role play item will also be joining the Fall assortment.

The hit Netflix series Stranger Things is getting a big action figure push with an awesome 10″ deluxe Demogorgon coming out this Spring (SRP $34.99) and new characters in Mike, Punk Eleven and Will this Summer. This Fall, be on the look out for a deluxe box set of all four main characters in their Ghostbusters costumes!

Other new McFarlane action figures include the addition of Shu Tsukiyama to the Tokyo Ghoul line and Levi Ackerman to round out the three main Survey Corps members in the Attack on Titan series. I asked if we could possibly see some Titans and McFarlane’s rep mentioned that they are looking at potentially doing a 10-inch figure. I suggested a Colossal would be the bee’s knees.

AMC’s The Walking Dead will see new 10-inch figures of Daryl Dixon with AK-47 and a “Merciless” edition of Negan swinging his baseball bat Lucille. The 5-inch figure series (yes, it’s still around folks!) will get a new Rick and a deluxe 3-pack with Rick, Daryl and the first-ever figure of Jesus.

Last but not lease, McFarlane Toys will be making construction sets and action figures based on the hit stealth game Hello Neighbor. Expect figures of The Kid and various versions of The Neighbor in figure form this Fall.

Oh, I almost forgot! As part of their Star Trek license, McFarlane will be releasing a cool role play replica of the phasers used on the new series Discovery. In stores this Fall priced at a SRP of $34.99.
