January 2019 has been a semi-quiet month news-wise, but when it rains, it pours. And when Diamond Select Toys sends out a new round of solicitations, it practically monsoons! DST has a whopping SEVEN new Marvel figures and statues in their latest round of solicits, and today I’ll be looking at a trio of them from one of my favorite lines: the Marvel Gallery Okoye, Dazzler and PS4 Spider-Man Rhino Figures are now up for order!

Diamond Select Toys has spent the last several years revolutionizing the size, quality, detail and character breadth that we can expect from value-priced PVC figures and statues. DST has hit on dozens of Marvel characters from Netflix, video games, movies and comic books—and their latest round of solicitations will be hitting all four of these pillars once again.

The biggest—and perhaps most surprising—reveal in this new batch of solicits has to be the Deluxe Marvel Gallery Rhino from the PS4 Spider-Man video game. While that GamerVerse Spider-Man game was a monumental hit, we haven’t seen many toys released for the game at all—and almost all of the ones we have seen are of Spidey himself.

This PS4 Rhino Gallery Statue is the second addition to this year’s new line of “Marvel Gallery Deluxe” Figures, the new label for the oversized figures that DST had to be taking a loss on in previous years (like that humongous Gladiator Hulk released last year from Thor Ragnarok).

While PS4 Spider-Man Rhino is only billed at 10” tall, he’s vastly wider and obviously uses a ton more plastic that a typical DST Gallery PVC. With the discounted price on EE for Rhino being only $10 more than the standard Gallery statues, I think he’s very fairly priced given his immense size.

It makes sense to me to get a visually-impressive and popular villain line Rhino to complement the GamerVerse Spider-Man statue that went up for sale last month. Thumbs up.

From the Netflix Marvel series, we’ve got a mass release of the previously GameStop Exclusive Iron Fist Gallery action-posed figure. Given the unpopularity of Netflix Iron Fist as a show and as a character—coupled with the cancellation of the series—I suspect this is going to be a bit of a dud sales-wise and likely the last piece of merch we see for that version of the character.

For MCU movie fans, we’ve got a surprise addition to the Black Panther Gallery: Okoye! Okoye and the Dora Milaje in general were a bit of a question mark for merchandisers before the Black Panther movie came out last year, but the character has gone on to be extremely popular and well-loved.

I’m not 100% sold on the pose/design for this Marvel Gallery Okoye figure, but I do like that it’s being made and I hope to be more impressed with it when I have the opportunity to see it in person.

Last, but definitely not least, is an X-Men character who’s become a bit of a cult favorite after being relegated to “laughing stock” status for many years: Dazzler!

Disco Dazzler is rather iconic as far as 80’s Marvel characters go, and a sentimental favorite of many fans of that era. The roller skates, disco ball incorporated into the base, light effects piece and pearlescent looking costume all hit the right chords with me. This is the piece I’m most psyched for from this new wave of solicitations.

The Diamond Select Marvel Gallery Rhino (GamerVerse), Dazzler, Iron Fist and Okoye statues are now up for order, and are scheduled to be released in June/July 2019. DST excels at getting these Gallery PVCs out on-time, so I wouldn’t expect any delays on any of these.
