FIRST LOOK: WizKids Star Trek Attack Wing Kelvin Timeline Mirror Universe Faction Pack Previews

-Scott Rubin

We’re back with more exclusive Star Trek Attack Wing previews!  Last time we checked out upgrades for the Wave 4 Card Packs, and today we’re going to set our scanners one of two upcoming Faction Packs: the Kelvin Timeline Mirror Universe Faction Pack!  We’ve got a lot to look at so let’s dive right in to content from the three most recent films featuring the Enterprise in an all new timeline.

73289 - Manuever- Constitution Class Kelvin 1 - Mirror Universe

A big draw for this pack is going to be the new ships, and here we can reveal what one of them can do.  Here’s the Constitution Class (Kelvin) Maneuvers card, showing off the full suite of movement options for the Enterprise and its generic class versions.  It’s not a particularly agile vessel with 1, 2, and 3 speed Banks but Turns only at 2.  However the Constitution is fast, going all the way up to a red 6 Straight move, and it has a handy 1 speed Full Astern.

73289a - Hikaru Sulu - Mirror Universe

Undoubtedly we’ll be getting Captain options of Kirk and Spock, and joining them will be Hikaru Sulu!  The helmsman appears as a 5 skill Federation/Mirror Universe Captain costing 3 points, and he has a special ability that perfectly represents his unique training.  As an action Sulu’s ship can perform an additional 1 speed Bank AND get an Evade token!  That maneuverability will come in especially handy with the Kelvin Timeline Constitution class, though it’s always useful.

73289b - Hikaru Sulu - Mirror Universe

And that’s not all Sulu can do!  Flip his card and he becomes Hikaru Sulu the 3 point Crew upgrade.  Here he’s an expert helmsman who can prevent his ship from taking damage from Obstacles and Minefield Tokens, letting you roll 3 defense dice and cancelling damage with evade results.  He’s a must-include for games in battlefields crowded with Obstacles and against opponents who love to use mines.

73289a - Montgomery Scott - Mirror Universe

Joining Sulu on the Enterprise’s mission is Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott.  Scotty is a 3 point Federation/Mirror Universe Crew upgrade card that has two sides and a built in flip mechanic.  On both sides he has a repair ability, one for a Shield and the other for 1 Hull.

Whichever side you start the game with, Scotty can do his work in the Planning Phase in exchange for 3 Time Tokens, and he gets flipped.

73289 - Klingon Patrol - Mirror Universe

Of course, it’s not just Federation in this Faction Pack… the Klingons are here too.  The Klingon Patrol is a 2 point Klingon/Mirror Universe Crew upgrade that does something very cool; it lets you re-activate your Cloak in the End Phase if it was dropped for firing (or by another effect)!  It does have a limitation, though, requiring your ship to be outside the Primary Firing Arc of any enemy vessels at Range 1-2, but that makes it even easier to plan around if you’re able to take a shot while cloaked and end up in a safe zone.

73289 - Disruptor Volley - Mirror Universe

Klingons don’t come to a fight without proper equipment, like the new Disruptor Volley Weapon upgrade.  It’s a 3 point Klingon/Mirror Universe card that can only be equipped to a Warbird class ship.  The Volley can be fired at Range 1-3, is disabled when shot, and rolls 5 attack dice.  If it hits it does no damage; instead it applies an Auxiliary Power Token.  But if the hit ship is an Attack Squadron it hits really hard, shedding one Attack Squadron Token per uncancelled hit and critical hit!

Just like the Motley Fleet Independent Faction Pack this one too comes with a fun mission.  Included is the Ancient Weapon scenario that pits two rival powers scrambling to get their hands on powerful technology.  It’s a race to collect Mission Tokens from Objectives or enemy ships with their shields down.  This mission is all or nothing, and the only way to win is to get all three Mission Tokens and flee the battlefield!
