When you’ve been collecting Marvel toys for over two decades, you’re bound to have some regrets of pieces you’ve missed. One of mine is the comic-based Bowen Designs Hela statue, which is the only large scale statue of the character ever made… until now! Diamond Select Toys is diving deep again, and their Marvel Premier Collection Hela Statue is now up for order! And that’s not all—a Marvel Select PS4 Spider-Man figure, new Animated Thanos statue, Gallery Morbius figure and more are in this month’s solicitations!

Bowen Designs was my entryway into collecting statues and high-end collectibles as an adult, but even with that being my primary focus as a collector for close to a decade and a half, there are quite a few pieces that I missed out on or couldn’t afford at any given time.

One such piece is the 1:6 Hela Statue that Bowen released towards the very end of their run in 2014, which was sculpted by Mike Cusanelli and limited to 366 pieces produced. I had planned on snagging this piece, but with a ton of other releases and expenses at the time, it just didn’t work out. And once it was selling for $500-$700 regularly on eBay, I figured Hela was beyond my reach forever.

But to my surprise, we learned at SDCC 2019 that another company is making a classic Hela comic-based Statue: Diamond Select Toys! And while the Marvel Premier Collection Hela may not be quite as beautifully detailed as Bowen Designs’ was, I can actually afford this one at the $135 shipped it’s selling for on EE right now. Pumped!

While there’s no new Minimates again this month, most of the other DST Marvel lines are getting a new entry as well. As seen in San Diego, the first-ever Marvel Select GamerVerse action figure will be PS4 Spider-Man!

The Diamond Select Spider-Man PS4 figure will come with “web accessories” and interchangeable hands and head, although the official photos don’t show them. I was reasonably satisfied with the Hasbro Legends PS4 Spidey, but I have to admit that the overall look of this iteration is promising. And unlike Hasbro’s, this one won’t be a GameStop Exclusive.

For Skottie Young Marvel Babies fans, a new Animated Thanos Statue is on the way! He’s in the classic “Come and Get Me!” pose based off the Infinity Gauntlet, and has a totally different feel to him than the original Gentle Giant Thanos in the cute balloon-holding pose. With this release, Thanos joins Spider-Man and Venom as the only characters to appear multiple times in the Skottie Young-inspired Animated Series.

On the PVC Gallery front, it’s the Marvel Gallery Morbius Statue! The Living Vampire isn’t really one of my favorites, but the detailing on his face and the gargoyle base looks tremendous. I really hope that the final product can look as good as this prototype, because it’s the first time I’ve ever been excited about a Morbius Statue.

Finally, there’s two expensive large-scale Marvel Milestones statues in this month’s solicits: a movie-based Endgame Hulk with Nano Gauntlet (that looks straight-up bad to me) and a Marvels 25th Anniversary Angel Statue.

The 16” Endgame Hulk doesn’t look very movie authentic to me at all, and feels grossly overpriced at $499 MSRP. The 14” Marvels Angel statue actually looks quite lovely and hits the right nostalgia chord with me, but is also crazily priced at $499.

EE is offering both these Marvel Milestones statues with free shipping and over $100 off each for pre-orders, but even at that price I feel a little underwhelmed (particularly with movie Hulk). These are a pass for me, although with a LE of 1000 pieces, I don’t think DST will struggle TOO too much to unload them all.
