Well, here’s an unexpected twist this evening! Many collectors have been waiting a few months for their orders of individual 6″ Star Wars Black Series Qui-Gon Jinn figures to come into stock from Entertainment Earth. But–surprise!!–it looks like those orders aren’t going to be fulfilled… ever. While Amazon still has some Qui-Gon Jinn Black Series in-stock themselves, EE is letting customers know that Hasbro has informed them that Qui-Gon is now discontinued…

When the wave of Star Wars Black Series 6″ figures continuing Lando Calrissian, Tusken Raider and the Emperor’s Royal Guard went up for order online a few months ago, Qui-Gon Jinn was suspiciously the only new figure in the wave that initially wasn’t available for order in straight  case packs.

That oversight seemed to be corrected as eventually Qui-Gon was available solo from online stores, but it looks like those straight cases of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s master won’t be coming after all!

Entertainment Earth sent out the following message today to customers who had Qui-Gon Jinn on order (including me, as I had ordered an extra for my packaged Episode I collection):

“We have been notified by the manufacturer that we will not be receiving any additional shipments of Star Wars The Black Series Qui-Gon Jinn 6-Inch Action Figure, (Item HSC2141), because they have discontinued production of this item at this point in time.”

Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Hasbro will never produce this Qui-Gon Jinn figure again, but considering that figures like Revenge of the Sith Anakin Skywalker that are an enormous demand haven’t even been reissued, I think the chances of seeing more Qui-Gons produced anytime in the near future are pretty dang slim.

As of writing, Amazon still has the Black Series Qui-Gon Jinn figure available for MSRP, but that won’t last long now that the lothcat is out of the bag that Qui-Gon is out of production. If you need Anakin’s first mentor in six inch form, now is the time to grab one!

Are you surprised to see Qui-Gon Jinn discontinued before the figure even arrives at most retailers, Star Wars fans? Is Hasbro right in assuming low demand for this character (presumably due to his being from The Phantom Menace), or has Qui-Gon been wronged?
