In another two days, toys and merchandise will finally be available for the Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. That means that The Force Awakens’ time in the sun as the newest core Star Wars film on the block is quickly coming to an end. But before it does, Sideshow Collectibles is looking to cash in with one more Episode VII based Premium Format Figure: the Sideshow Captain Phasma Premium Format Statue goes up for order this week!

Alas, poor Captain Phasma. I don’t think Star Wars fans have ever been as disappointed in a super-hyped character as was the case with Captain Phasma, a character who literally did nothing before being dumped down the garbage chute (also literally).

Even so, I have sky-high hopes for Captain Phasma playing a better role in The Last Jedi (it certainly can’t be worse), and as I have a weakness for shiny things, this 1/4 statue has definitely caught my interest.

While Finn and Poe Dameron are clearly more important characters to the Sequel Trilogy (ST) than Phasma, there’s no question that the chrome-plated Stormtrooper is visually more compelling (which is why she’s getting a PF statue and Finn and Poe are not–for now).

The Captain Phasma Sideshow statue stands 22.5″ tall and features a wired, fabric cape and a Starkiller Base-themed base.

I’m not always big on fabric capes on statues, but this is an instance where I think that the cape being made of fabric greatly enhances the look of piece.

Although the official photos and the display model shown at SDCC 2017 don’t have it, Sideshow Collectibles representatives have said on social media that a chrome effect will be added to the statue. I’m a total Mark for chrome, so its addition will be a huge deciding factor for me in whether or not I give in and order this piece.

While the majority of Sideshow Collectibles PFs get Exclusive Editions, Captain Phasma does not. I think that’s largely due to the fact that, well… there’s really no other accessory to give her. We never see her unmasked in TFA, nor does she wield a different weapon. Sideshow has really picked the quintessential pose for the character as it is.

One thing that I do think will make collectors smile (or at least not grimace with rage) is that the Premium Format Figure Captain Phasma is “only” $530. That’s still a lot of money, mind you, but it’s a lower price than the recent statues for Bespin Luke, Boba Fett, Bespin Han and K-2SO statues. I saw quite a few collectors speculating that Phasma would retail for $600 or up, so I think $530 ought to be a satisfactory price for those collectors.

(Although whether or not many collectors will actually pay $530 for a Captain Phasma figure remains to be seen.)

The Sideshow Collectibles Premium Format Captain Phasma figure goes up for order Thursday afternoon, and is scheduled to be released in Q3 2018. Unless Sideshow is planning to shock us all with an ultra-low edition size, I don’t see there being any reason to feel pressured to order this statue right away (unless you want to get a payment plan started ASAP).
