REVIEW: The Coop DESTINY Vinyl Ghosts – Generalist and Kill Tracker Shells

In conjunction with the release of Destiny 2 last year, around September 2017, a white Ghost vinyl figure was released exclusively to Target stores. This must have been advertised to those with their ear to the ground on Destiny news, because I totally missed this announcement. Regardless, according to reports I’ve read, this exclusive vinyl figure was a pain in the butt to get. Target stores evidently didn’t receive much inventory, and in some cases employees were squirreling them away. Needless to say the Target-exclusive Ghost vinyl figure started showing up on eBay for a pretty penny – far beyond its original $15 price tag.

Flash forward to the New York Toy Fair this February. Guess what I saw on display at The Coop‘s booth? Not only the Target “exclusive” white Ghost vinyl figure… but a new blue and orange Kill Tracker shell as well. I was told that an entire LINE of these Ghost vinyl figures was coming out this year (read my story HERE). If that news wasn’t awesome enough, the news that the first two – that elusive white “Generalist” shell AND the Kill Tracker – were due for release at the end of February. Sure enough, a quick search showed these up for pre-order at GameStop priced at $14.99 each. I ordered both and waited.

The end of February came and went, but TODAY – March 13th – these two vinyls arrived on my doorstep. Now that’s what I call speedy. There’s nothing better than seeing something you like and being able to get it so fast, especially at Toy Fair when most toys shown aren’t scheduled to ship until much later.

So are these Destiny Ghost vinyl figures any good? Passionate players are gonna love these, while casual fans, like myself (I don’t even play the game anymore), will dig them for their unique design and colors. As designer art pieces, the Ghost vinyl pop on display.

Each figure measures about 4 inches wide and 5 inches tall – a total of 7 inches if you count the display base and rod the Ghost comes permanently attached to. In other words, these are rather large vinyl figures, roughly life-size to their video game counterparts. Their firm, solid vinyl construction is also top notch – nothing cheap or squishy feeling here. DSCN5341

Did I mention these cost $14.99 each? It’s an insane value. Sure, you can snag a Funko Pop! vinyl figure for ten bucks, but these Ghost vinyl are like twice the size and are of a much nicer quality. In my experience with collectibles, these Ghosts could easily retail for $30 and it’d seem fair. As is, $14.99 is a steal. Oh, and as an extra bonus, each Ghost vinyl includes a Destiny 2 in-game item code.

Get the Generalist and Kill Tracker Ghost shells now at a GameStop near you.
