The Force is Strong – @eBay Reveals Impact of Galaxy Edge Opening on its Site

This summer, when Disneyland opened Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Anaheim, CA, a wave of new merchandise and memorabilia came with it. Shoppers who couldn’t make it to the park turned to eBay – one of the largest destinations for Star Wars collectibles – to browse Galaxy Outpost’s finest, from lightsabers to pins. The online marketplace also saw an increase in sales for other Star Wars related items.

Here’s what Star Wars mega fans were hunting for on eBay, according to sales* and searches**:

 

  • In the week leading up to the park’s opening, shoppers searched for 250 Star Wars items per minute on eBay. On the day of the park’s opening, there were 360k+ searches for Star Wars Galaxy Edge related items.

 

  • Throughout opening weekend, shoppers searched for an average of five Star Wars items per second. In the 48 hours following, sales for Star Wars items – from action figures to lightsabers, and more – jumped 31%.

 

  • Two weeks after the park’s opening, shoppers were still turning to eBay for Galaxy’s Edge merch, averaging more than 3,600 searches per day.

 

  • The most popular Star Wars: Galaxy Edge items purchased on eBay include: Star Wars Galaxy Edge Pins (Opening Day, Millennium Falcon Cockpit, Exclusive Cast Member, etc.); Star Wars Galaxy Edge Coke, Dasani and Sprite Bottles from Oga’s Cantina and Docking Bay 7; Lightsabers; Star Wars Galaxy Edge T-Shirts; and Kyber Crystals.

 

With one of the largest collections of Star Wars rare, retro and right-now toys, collectibles and memorabilia on eBay, shoppers are bound to find new and vintage pieces to add to their collection.
