SDCC: Marvel Legends 2019 X-Men! Professor X! Gambit! Sentinel!

The San Diego Comic-Con 2018 Marvel Legends panel has come and gone, and while I’ve actually seen some collectors complaining there weren’t enough reveals, I think there’s plenty of new things to pine away for. Over the next few days, I’ll break down all of the new 6” figures announced at the show, starting with the X-Men Marvel Legends 2019 series, which contains new figures of Blink, Gambit, Magik, Professor X in Hoverchair and more…

Marvel Legends 2019 X-Men Reveals at SDCC 2018Hasbro has been teasing a new Marvel Legends Professor X figure for so long now that it seems only right that they dragged out his full reveal over the course of their panel at SDCC 2018 this weekend.

Initially mentioned as one of the X-Men Legends 2019 Figures, we found out at the end of the panel that he won’t be part of that wave at all—instead, he’s coming as part of the next series of Legendary Riders… complete with Cerebro helmet and 90s-style Hoverchair!

Marvel Legends Professor X in HoverchairI mean, what is there to say about this? Charles Xavier in action figure form never looked so good. Love the helmet, love the Charles headsculpt, love the chair and levitating effects piece. Nothing but a sickening amount of love for this. Bravo, Hasbro!

But while Professor Xavier won’t be part of the actual 2019 Marvel Legends X-Men Series, we now approximately half of the figures that will be!

Marvel Legends Gambit 2019 X-Men Series Figure SDCC 2018Fans (including me) have been demanding a Hasbro Gambit Legends figure year after year, and they’ll finally get the definitive 90s Gambit next year! With a perfect facial sculpt, a bo staff and an effects piece playing card, I hope and pray Hasbro double-packs this Gambit so that he’s a cinch for collectors to find!

X-Men Marvel Legends 2019 Blink Figure Official PhotoNext up is a rather unexpected pick—the first-ever Marvel Legends Blink figure! I liked her in her Generation X and New Mutants appearances, and fell in love with her during Age of Apocalypse. As the central character of Marvel’s Exiles, I’m thrilled to see Blink get some love in ML form.

2019 Marvel Legends Skullbuster Reavers X-Men FigureBut if you thought Blink was an off-the-wall pick, you ain’t seen nothing yet! The last entry announced for the X-Men series at SDCC also happens to be one of the most crazy-obscure picks they’ve ever made: Skullbuster of the Reavers! I won’t lie—I had to Wiki this dude myself because my memory just does not recall his existence.

Hasbro strongly hinted that we’ll be seeing a Marvel Legends Forge figure as part of this wave as well, as he’s known for killing Skullbuster (or at least, as known as you can be for killing a character 99.9% of comic book readers may have forgotten ever existed). Hopefully we’ll see Forge at NYCC 2018!

Box Front Marvel Legends X-Men Wolverine and Sentinel Exclusive SetWhile no other members of the X-Men Build-A-Figure series were announced at the show (or the BAF itself), Hasbro did also give us some information on some X-Men Legends exclusives.

Target Exclusive Marvel Legends Sentinel and Wolverine Set PackagedThat much-desired Sentinel with Days it Future Past Wolverine that was meant as a Toys R Us exclusive? Looks like it’s going to Target instead! Target has a good track record for ordering adequate supplies of exclusives, so I’m glad to see the Marvel Legends Sentinel in good hands.

Marvel Legends Sentinel and Days of Future Past Wolverine Figure SetRelease date and price of the Sentinel and DOFP Wolverine box set are both still unknown, but at least we know that it is still coming.

Marvel Legends Exclusive Archangel Figure with Apocalypse ClawAs I talked about last night, a refreshed Marvel Legends Archangel is already up for order online and coming toward the end of the year. He’s got four heads (yes, four—I am ashamed I was incapable of counting past three when I talked about him yesterday), a metallic sheen on his wings and a Claw attachment for the Apocalypse Build-A-Figure.

Marvel Legends 2018 Archangel Exclusive Figure with 3 HeadsI’ve seen quite a bit of griping over the $29.99 MSRP for this Archangel, but I don’t have an issue with it: given the size of the wings and all the accessories, expecting this figure at the usual $20 price-point just seems unrealistic to me these days.

Walgreens Exclusive Marvel Legends Magik Figure 2018Finally, we’ve got an exclusive coming to Walgreens stores: Marvel Legends Magik! The SDCC Exclusive Magik figure from the Book of Vishanti set from years back was selling for $100+ and was ridiculously hard to get, so I think many, many fans will be grateful to have a better chance at getting a Magik figure at retail now.

Hasbro’s changed up some of the paint and tooling for this Magik so that she’s definitely not a repack, and I really dig the flaming Purgatory Dragon demon pack-in. Great use for that Lockheed mold! Looks like we’re getting nine total accessories with Magik–quite a nice haul!

Marvel Legends Magik Figure PackagedThe Marvel Legends X-Men 2019 series should go up for order sometime next spring, with the rest of the series anticipated to be revealed slowly between now and New York Toy Fair 2019. I’ll post more updates whenever Hasbro lets us see something else from the wave. There’s no concrete dates available yet on when we should expect Magik, the Sentinel or Professor X.

…And there you have it! 8 different X-Men figures coming our way between now and SDCC 2019! What do you think, Marvel collectors? Are you happy with the selections Hasbro made, and who do you want to see fill the remaining spots in next year’s wave?
