SDCC 2018: Marvel Legends Vintage Blue Wasp! Scarlet Spider! Ant-Man! Latest News July 21, 2018 At last year’s San Diego Comic Con, Hasbro revealed the entirety of an all new line of Vintage Marvel Legends figures over the course of several days of the convention. SDCC 2018 is much the same, as Marvel Legends Vintage Wave 2 has been making its debut, two figures at a time! While we haven’t officially seen the last pair yet, so far Hasbro has revealed Marvel Legends Vintage Scarlet Spider, Black Panther, Classic Ant-Man and… the legendary blue Wasp variant!? While many longtime collectors wrote off the retro Marvel Legends Vintage Collection as being a bunch of repacks and minor repaints, I love it. The Toybiz-styled packaging art hits all my sentimental heartstrings, and I think the figures in the first wave of Vintage Legends were almost all improvements over the original figures they were based on. How’s the Marvel Legends Vintage Series 2 stacking up? Let’s have a look… The biggest jaw-dropper by a landslide in this series is the Marvel Legends Blue Wasp Figure. Wasp in her blue costume has achieved legendary status because of the Toybiz variants that only a handful of were ever produced, and which sell for thousands of dollars in the rare instances that they show up for sale online. This Hasbro Retro Marvel Legends Blue Wasp figure obviously isn’t a recreation of the Toybiz prototype, but it still looks really groovy and is a must-have for my collection. At last, I shall own the Blue Wasp figure I’ve dreamed of for well over a decade! And hey, you can’t have Wasp in a series without Ant-Man, right? We haven’t had a classic comic book Hank Pym Ant-Man Marvel Legends figure in many years, so this is a welcome addition to the lineup. I’m not sure that the lanky Pizza Spider-Man body mold chosen for the Marvel Legends Vintage Ant-Man is necessarily what I would have picked, but he still looks decent. I love that both Ant-Man and Wasp come with a mini figure of the other! The second duo Hasbro showed off were Marvel Legends Scarlet Spider and Black Panther Figures. The Black Panther figure looks nice and all—and the classic necklace is neat—but I’m getting a bit burned-out on Black Panther action figures at this point. That classic hoodie-wearing Scarlet Spider Legends figure, however, is definitely my jam! The 2015 Rhino Series Scarlet Spider has been getting increasingly expensive on the aftermarket, so this is a great choice. An even better move by Hasbro is including the blonde Ben Reilly unmasked head to sell this figure to those who already own the original! The Marvel Legends Retro Wave 2 series should be up for order this fall and released before the end of 2018. I’d anticipate that the final two figures will be 100% revealed by tonight (almost totally confirmed as Hawkeye without metal arm and a classic Vision at this point), and I’ll add photos of them to this article once images are available. Big thanks to James Gorham for sending in his photos of Scarlet Spider and Black Panther from the show! Are you happy to see another wave of retro Marvel Legends released, Marvel collectors? Would you like to see a new wave in this fashion released every year, or are you satisfied with just these two series? The post SDCC 2018: Marvel Legends Vintage Blue Wasp! Scarlet Spider!
