Lock ‘n load your Gnasher and rev up that chainsaw Lancer because Gears of War is back! Available now for Microsoft Windows and Xbox One, Gears 5 continues the popular third-person, cover-based shooter franchise. After taking the helm from Epic on Gears 4, The Coalition has finally found its groove with the series, offering longtime Gearheads (like myself) more of the hardcore sci-fi combat we’ve grown to love, all while putting their unique stamp on the brand.

The new game focuses on Kait Diaz, an Outsider of Locust descent. As Kait, the player must uncover the origins of the Locust and Kait’s family. While ruff ‘n gruff old-timer Marcus Fenix returns, the new game centers on The Coalition’s new blood: Kait, JD Fenix (Marcus’ son) and Delmont Walker. I get it, while change is hard, it’s ultimately good and healthy for a long-running series like this to succeed. I wasn’t exactly thrilled by their introduction in the last game, but I admit that these characters have grown on me after playing Gears 5.

But enough of my chitter chatter on the new game. If you’re reading this, it’s because you’re already a Gears of War fan. You also might be looking for a fun new way to show off your GoW fandom. You’re curious to what this whole Gears 5 LookSee Box is all about…

Sold exclusively by online retailer Toynk.com, LookSee Boxes are fun bundles of fan-centric items all based around one particular license or theme, such as Harry Potter, Rick and Morty and Fallout. They are the opposite of a Mystery Box, another popular Toynk item sold online and at conventions. With a LookSee Box, you know exactly what you are getting. Usually, all of the content of a LookSee Box comes packaged in a themed cardboard box. With Toynk’s Gears 5 LookSee Box, all the items come in a cool collectible ammo tin. 

The tin is what initially got me excited about the Gears 5 LookSee Box. It’s unique and not found outside this bundle. Measuring 8 inches long, 4 inches wide and 6 inches tall, the real metal ammo tin (think retro lunchbox) opens up via a hinge on one side. What’s cool about it is that it looks just like an ammo box found in the game! It pairs well with my old NECA Lancer replica and it’s a great place to stash stuff… which is exactly what Toynk did. Amazingly, all the Gears 5 LookSee Box contents are actually packaged inside this ammo tin. These include:

Gears 5 Character Magnets – These arrive as a sealed sheet. Just peel ’em off and stick away on any flat metal surface. You get six character magnets and the Gears 5 logo. While not the highest quality of magnets, they do make for a fun and easy way to display your love of GoW.

Team Scorpio Car Decal – This 5 x 7 inch sticker represents the logo of the COG Hivebuster squad used in the game’s new multiplayer Escape Mode. Nice high quality car window decal that should stick around on your car for years to come.

In-Game Supply Drop Digital Content Code – This is a nice extra as the only way to get Gears 5 Supply Drops are by actually playing Gears 5 multiplayer (pay-to-play Loot Boxes are so yesterday). Supply Drops contain character cosmetics, emotes, weapon skins, and even customized blood sprays. As the card states, you’ll need an Xbox Live Gold Membership in order to use it… which you’ll need anyways to play Gears 5 multiplayer.

Kait 16 oz Plastic Tumbler w/ Lid & Straw – This item is produced by Just Funky, well known for producing licensed drinkware. It’s a high quality, double-walled acrylic cup – BPA Free, of course – complete with a screw top lid and plastic straw. It’s useful, but your mileage will vary on how much you like it depending on how much you like the character Kait. Seeing that she’s the star of Gears 5, it’s a no-brainer that she’s featured on this cup (and most all of Gears 5’s merchandise).

Del Walker Knit Beanie – Ah, but not ALL Gears 5 merch! Del Walker gets his due with another useful bundle item: a wearable grey beanie, just like the one worn by Del Walker in the game! I have an adult-sized noggin and this hat fit very well. I actually plan on wearing this come winter as I like it’s neutral, subdued design (plus it’s quite confy and warm). To most people it looks just like a grey beanie. However, Gearheads will know what it truly represents! I like that in geek clothing – flaunting your fandom without screaming it out loud.

Gears of War Nanoforce Army Builder Figures – I love these ‘lil guys! Produced by Emce Toys, Nanoforce figures capture all of the fun and nostalgia of classic green army men, but with today’s hottest licenses. This line was first introduced by Toynk using the Fallout video game license (read my review HERE) and I’m excited to see Nanoforce branching out to new properties.

Standing approximately 2-inches tall, the Gears 5 Nanoforce sampler pack includes 6 characters: 3 blue good guys (Kait, JD Fenix and your hovering robot companion Jack) and 3 red bad guys (Juvie, Swarm Sniper, and DeeBee Reject). Well made and featuring great sculpts, these mini figures make a fun addition to any Gears collection.

And there you have it! Toynk’s Gears 5 LookSee Box packs a lot of GoW fandom in such a tight package. Priced right at $49.99, there are some unique Gears 5 items in here that you can’t get anywhere else, such as the ammo tin, Nanoforce figures and Del Walker beanie. Those items alone equal the price of admission for me. Tack on a useful game code and cup, along with fun magnets and a decal and Toynk’s Gears 5 LookSee Box makes for a very entertaining package.
