REVIEW: Deadpool Marvel Legends Sasquatch Build-A-Figure

Continuing to slog through my massive backlog of Marvel Legends figures that I have queued for review, today I’m looking at one of this year’s most surprising Build-A-Figures. Sasquatch is one of the cheaper complete Marvel Legends BAFs on the aftermarket in quite a while, and has only a tenuous connection to the character whose series he’s the Build-A-Figure of (Deadpool). Is this Hasbro figure worth upgrading to if you already own the Toybiz version?

Marvel Legends Sasquatch Build-A-Figure ReviewWhen I first heard confirmation that a new Marvel Legends Sasquatch figure was in the works, I was like, “What? We already have a perfectly great one from Toybiz!”

Then I made the mistake of actually getting out my Toybiz Sasquatch figure and my jaw about hit the floor. The old Toybiz version is so outdated it’s crazy, with a gangly body and a face right out of a horror movie. It turns out I was totally wrong and Hasbro was totally correct: we did need an improved Sasquatch.

Close-Up of Marvel Legends 2018 Sasquatch Figure HasbroAnd by and large, that’s just what they have given us here. Marvel’s non-Wendigo Bigfoot with vastly improved proportions and an appearance that much more closely resembles his comic book appearances.

Hasbro opted for a pensive facial expression for this Sasquatch BAF, which, while befitting of Walter Langkowski, is also really dull. The likeness is orders of magnitude better than that of the Toybiz figure, mind you, but it’s hard to get Sasquatch into action poses that look convincing when he looks like he’s ready to take a nap.

Back of Hasbro Marvel Legends Deadpool Sasquatch FigureWhile Sasquatch doesn’t have the most visually exciting color palette around, Hasbro did what they could to make this BAF look appealing. He’s covered from head to toe in brown, orange and red-orange “rust” colors that flow into each other without a hitch. The paint shading and gradients on Sasquatch look terrific.

Deadpool Marvel Legends Sasquatch BAF vs DeadpoolThe articulation is rather impressive as well, albeit slightly imperfect. We get ball-hinge ankles with rockers; ball-hinged neck/shoulders/wrists; hinged elbows; double-hinge knees; ball-jointed hips; swivel biceps/thighs/waist and the ever-popular ab crunch.

Deadpool Legends Sasquatch BAF Holding Up Deadpool FigureThe lack of double-jointed elbows means he can’t fist pump and grab other characters quite the way I want, but his articulation is solid nonetheless. Marvel Legends Sasquatch’s right arm and some other joints have some looseness to them, but luckily his left arm is strong enough to hold other figures aloft for a beating.

Sasquatch Build-A-Figure Marvel Legends 2018And, well… that’s about it. There’s no weapons or accessories to speak of (and I don’t even know what they would be if Hasbro wanted to include some), there’s no known Marvel Legends Alpha Flight figures in the works to pair Sasquatch with (besides some older ones like Puck and Guardian)… this figure is just sort of boring.

This figure is technically fine, but just like the reasoning for him being the Deadpool Legends Build-A-Figure (he appeared in issue 1 of a Deadpool series), the Sasquatch Marvel Legends figure just isn’t all that exciting.

Sasquatch Marvel Legends Deadpool Series Build-A-FigureOverall: Marvel Legends Sasquatch is a model image of a Build-A-Figure which is basically fine, but fails to captivate me in any way. Other than the lack of double-jointed elbows and some weak joints, there’s really nothing wrong with this figure: he’s just kind of… there.

That said, this Sasquatch is on a whole other level than the Toybiz version, absolutely putting that relic to shame. If you’re a Sasquatch fan, this figure is pretty groovy. If you’re ambivalent toward the character like me, you’ll probably be as lukewarm on this figure as I am.
