Prelude to Syracuse’s Salt City Comic-Con ..with Captain America Movie Night

Captain America & Comic Con Kick Off at Auburn Public Theater

Auburn, NY – The recent Marvel movie, Captain America: Civil War (2016) pitted super heroes against one another as they struggled to balance long-time friendships with passionately held political beliefs. Stuffed with an overwhelming jumble of heroes, this movie was loosely based on the iconic comic series by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven. Millar had once famously explained that this expansive adventure was a way “to play with all the toys in the toy box.”

This feature film will be previewed at Auburn Public Theater on Thursday July 5th at 7pm by a vintage Captain America cartoon, showcasing the first time that many of these Marvel heroes appeared onscreen. The cartoon also utilized many of Captain America co-creator Jack Kirby’s original illustrations.

Geek Culture Expert Ed Catto will be moderating the features and provide a brief introduction.

Cosplayer Steve Barker will be appearing in costume as Captain America at the unique event. Steve will also be exhibiting his impressive Captain America styled motorcycle out front of the theater.

“For me, Captain America has always been an embodiment of everything great about America: fighting for what’s right, helping others and taking a stand for what you believe. This is a great way to remind ourselves of what we are and honor the very real sacrifices of so many real heroes,” said Catto. “Longtime comics writer Mark Waid seemed to sum it up in a recent Captain America comic when he had the patriotic hero explain, “The strong protect the weak. That’s the way it works.”

Syracuse’s Salt City Comic-Con will be selling tickets during this movie, and also awarding free Comic-Con tickets and merchandise to lucky fans randomly throughout the night.

This event is another pre-game activity leading up to Syracuse’s Salt City Comic-Con, to be held July 7 and 8th at DestinyUSA and the Embassy Suites.

“We’re so excited for this year’s comic-con at Destiny,” said convention organizer Thomas Yeldon. “We can’t wait to host everyone at the show, and these pre-game events are just one more way that we’re dialing up the fun for our comic-con.”

Vintage Captain America comics and toys will be on display in the Auburn Public Theater lobby to celebrate this unique film event.

Marvel hero T’Challa of Wakanda, also known as the Black Panther made his cinematic debut in Captain America: Civil War. This is especially appropriate as Auburn hosted Black Panther writer Don McGregor earlier this month.
