Marvel Select Psylocke Figure Released & Photos!

It’s the summer of Psylocke, as not only did the Sideshow Premium Format figure of her begin arriving this month, but now her first-ever (and almost certainly only ever) Marvel Select figure has started hitting comic book stores as well! Amazon delayed their own pre-orders to September for whatever reason, but EE has Marvel Select Psylocke in-stock for shipping right now: did DST’s Betsy Braddock 7” figure turn out good enough to own?

Marvel Select Psylocke Figure Released

I did a whole spiel earlier this week in my Sideshow Psylocke Premium Format Statue review about how much I like both the character and that outrageously expensive statue, but it’s a fact: not everyone has a spare 600 bucks they can (or want to) spend on a giant 23” resin statue.

Luckily, we’re living in a new golden age of X-Men merch, and that means that we’ve got lots of options for everyone’s favorite British/Asian psychic ninja! We got Revoltech and Hasbro Marvel Legends Betsy’s within the past year, and now it’s Diamond Select Toys’ turn to deliver!

I never like to bet on finding Marvel Select figures locally, so I always order my must have DST action figures online. For that reason, I didn’t go out searching for the new Psylocke Select figure at my local comic book store… but I ran into her anyway, so I figured I’d take some pics!

In person, the final production Diamond Select Toys Psylocke figure looks fantastic. I don’t imagine we’ll hear the same complaints about the portrait as we have about the Sideshow statue, and the metallic blue paint used for her costume really pops and feels superior to the flat paint on the Hasbro Marvel Legends figure by a mile. And for those who want a new head for ML Betsy, the heads are compatible with last year’s 6” figure.

I had to look at a few old comics to verify, but the yellow pouch and sheath is a real thing from the comic books, and I dig that DST is giving us an obscure add-on like that (even if I’ll be removing it instantly off mine). This figure definitely feels like it stepped right out of the 90s in a very good way!

The new $29.99 MSRP for Select figures is a downer, but the copious amount of accessories including another Danger Room base and nine (NINE!) interchangeable hands makes the price-tag a bit easier to swallow.

The only two real complaints I’ve heard about this release are that 1) She’s too tall to fit in seamlessly with Hasbro Marvel Legends without being modded (as you’d expect, what with her being part of a 7” scale line and all); and 2) the psychic butterfly effect “mask” doesn’t fit well on the angry head (the one it’s intended for use on).

For me, those are both non-issues, but for fans hoping to mod her to fit in with their 6” Legends collections, I’ve heard through the grapevine that she can be customized relatively easily with a few cuts to her legs to fit that scale. I’m not a customizer (at all), so it’s all rocket science to me, mind you–but I hear it’s an easy enough operation to do.

Marvel Select Psylocke Figure Released

The Diamond Select Psylocke figure is now available and shipping from EE and BBTS online, and should be arriving (eventually) via Amazon as well. These have also hit most local comic book shops over the past week, although not all comic stores order many (or any, in some cases) DST figures.

Having seen the final product in person, I’m psyched for my own Psylocke Marvel Select figure to arrive in the mail in a few days! What do you think, Marvel collectors? Has DST hit a home run with this figure, or are you sticking to another version of the character?
