Kotobukiya Storm X-Men Danger Room Sessions Statue Up for Order!

Some Marvel collectibles lines are so good that collectors are willing to wait however long it takes to get the next release in the series. One such series is the Kotobukiya X-Men Danger Room Sessions series of Fine Arts statues, featuring renditions of iconic X-Men characters sculpted by Erick Sosa. It’s been over three since the Kotobukiya Rogue Danger Room Sessions Statue was solicited, but finally the next piece is on the way: the Kotobukiya Storm Fine Arts Statue is now up for order!

Kotobukiya Danger Room Sessions Storm StatueWhile visiting the Kotobukiya booth at New York Toy Fair 2018, I had to do a triple-take when I saw with my little eyes a sight I wasn’t sure I ever would: a final painted prototype of the long-(and I mean LONG) awaited Kotobukiya Danger Room Sessions Storm Statue!

For those whose collecting memories may be a bit rusty, the last release in this ultra-popular line of 1/6 scale resin X-Men statues was the Kotobukiya Rogue DRS statue that went up for order back in April… of 2015. Yowza!

Close-Up of Koto Storm Danger Room Sessions StatueIt’s been known for some time that Storm would be the next (and possibly last) addition to the line, and her appearance at the 2018 Toy Fair heralded her impending solicitation. Now that she’s finally up for pre-order, what do I think?

Back of Kotobukiya X-Men Storm Statue Fine Arts Danger Room SessionsWhile the Marvel 1:6 statue landscape has changed a bit in the last few years with the arrival of the Diamond Select Toys Marvel Premier Collection, I think this Storm statue still stands up well against today’s competition.

Koto wisely went with the X-Men Animated/Jim Lee White costume for this 15” Storm statue, which I consider to be the most recognizable look for the character and also the most marketable. Good choice, Koto.

X-Men Koto Storm Fine Arts Statue ResinFor those who don’t have triple the price of this $299 statue to spend on the XM Studios Storm, I think this makes a fine alternative. While some creative liberties have been taken with the ‘X’s on her costume being enlarged and her cape “wings” attaching to Ororo’s forearms instead of her wrists, I still think this looks pretty spectacular.

The base features a cyclone holding Storm aloft, surrounded by some chunks of Sentinel debris trapped within the winds. This looks super cool and is a real eye grabber in person, though I’ll admit it doesn’t look quite as nice in the official photos as it did when I saw it first-hand.

Kotobukiya Storm Fine Arts StatueIf there’s one thing that bugs me about this Koto Storm statue, it’s the alternate head (which, thankfully, is just a display option and not requisite): an interchangeable Mohawk Storm head.

Now, don’t get me wrong: I love Mohawk Storm as much as the next guy. But this Animated era white costume simply is NOT the right look to pair a Storm Mohawk head with. It looks ridiculous on this statue, and I can’t see more than the tiniest percentage of buyers using this head. It’s a nice sculpt, but it seems like a real waste. While her long-haired head isn’t exactly bursting with personality, it’s the display choice I’ll definitely be opting for myself.

Kotobukiya X-Men Storm Danger Room Sessions StatueThe Kotobukiya Storm Danger Room Sessions Statue is now up for order with a $20 PO discount at BBTS, and is scheduled to be released in February 2019. EE may offer an equal or better deal for her, but she’s not listed there yet. This just may be the swan song for the popular Kotobukiya X-Men series, and with there being a lot of pent-up demand from the last three years, I could see this limited piece being a swift seller for Koto.

Any Danger Room Sessions Statue collectors still left out there? If so, are you still going to collect the series after all this time? How do you like the DRS Storm, and who would you like to see follow her (if anyone)?
