Kotobukiya Professor X in Hoverchair ARTFX+ X-Men Figure!

Despite the hundreds of 6” scale Marvel Legends figures that have been released over the last decade and a half, there are still some major omissions from the X-Men ‘92 lineup. While perhaps the lack of a Jim Lee Jubilee is still the most keenly felt, there’s another animated-era costume that’s just as high on thousands of collectors’ wish lists. And while we may be waiting a bit longer for this character as a Hasbro Marvel Legends, Kotobukiya has a placeholder for us: the ARTFX+ Professor X in Hoverchair is now up for order!

Kotobukiya Professor X ARTFX StatueHe may be the patriarch of the X-Men, but poor Charles Xavier just does not get very many action figures. As a bald middle-aged man in a wheelchair, Chuck just does not get a whole lot of love from collectibles companies.

But even though he’s not the most “toy-etic” mutant in the land, Professor Xavier is a MUST-have for an X-Men team display. And while Toybiz gave us a decent ML Professor X in Wheelchair, Hasbro has yet to follow up with a Hoverchair Professor X. But maybe Koto has a suitable stand-in…

Kotobukiya X-Men ARTFX+ Professor Xavier Statue 2018Let’s talk scale, as what most collectors are going to be interested in is displaying this Xavier with their Hasbro Marvel Legends figures.

Whereas your typical Marvel Legends figure is roughly 6” tall (in the 1:12 scale), a Kotobukiya ARTFX+ figure is 1:10 scale (and stand around 7.2”). Ordinarily this size differential is too large of a problem to get past, but since Prof X is just an upper body in a big floating chair likely to be toward the back of the display, I can see this figure actually fitting in just fine.

This is the spitting image of Professor X from the 1992 X-Men Animated Series, captured in his iconic hand-to-his-forehead pose where he’s using his psychic powers, with his other hand pointing his X-Men into battle. It’s not the most detailed design in the world (being based off a 90s cartoon and all), but Koto has captured it beautifully.

X-Men 92 Kotobukiya Professor Xavier ARTFX+ FigureThe Hoverchair looks exactly how I remember it from the cartoon and the Jim Lee X-Men days, which is exactly what I wanted. It’s mounted on an X-Men logo base via a transparent pole to simulate “hovering” (because it’s, you know–a “hover”-chair). I’ve heard some people say they don’t like this base, but I’ve got no problem with it whatsoever. It’s simple, logical, and does what it needs to do.

Professor X Kotobukiya ARTFX+ Statue FigureThe Kotobukiya Professor X ARTFX+ Statue is now up for order, and is scheduled to be released in November 2018. He’s retailing for $69.99, which actually seems like a bit of a deal given the even higher MSRP of recent figures like Luke Cage and Jessica Jones (who don’t come in a huge hoverchair). I’m really excited to see who Koto has lined up next for this X-Men 92 series, which is my favorite line they’ve done in quite some time!

Thoughts on the Kotobukiya Professor Xavier ARTFX+ statue, Marvel collectors? Will you be picking up this 1:10 scale version of a rarely-done character, and if so, what collection will you be displaying him alongside?
