Kotobukiya Hulk ARTFX Premier Statue Up for Order! Immortal Hulk!

Kotobukiya took the ARTFX+ collecting world by surprise at New York Toy Fair 2019, where they announced a new line of high-end ARTFX Premier statues with extensive detailing in their tried-and-true classic 1:10 scale format. Captain America, Thor and Iron Man quickly launched for POs after Toy Fair, and now it’s time for the last of the four pieces that debuted there: the Kotobukiya Immortal Hulk ARTFX Premier Statue is now up for order! But even with premium details, is a 7” PVC statue worth $200…?

Immortal Hulk ARTFX Premier Kotobukiya StatueMake no mistake: when I saw the first quartet of Kotobukiya ARTFX+ Premier statues displayed at the 2019 Toy Fair, I was impressed. Koto has very clearly taken their level of sculpting detail and textures to a whole new level with this series, definitely earning the new “Premier” moniker. These are the most finely-detailed 1:10 scale Marvel statues that Koto has ever done.

That said, I was less impressed when I saw that this improved quality came at the cost of a significant price jump, with Captain America, Thor and Iron Man retailing for $140-$150 each. Now it turns out that Hulk is even more expensive still, with a $205 MSRP. Is he worth it…?

ARTFX Premier Statues at NY Toy Fair 2019In my eyes, the answer is a definitive “No”, unfortunately. Truth be told, even though it’s only about 7” tall, this Koto Hulk Premier ARTFX figure is extremely bulky and uses a ton more plastic than any of the previous three Avengers in the lineup.

That price-point for a plastic statue in this scale just seems looney to me. So for me, this Koto Hulk Statue (based off the 2018-2019 Immortal Hulk comic books series look) is a pass.

Kotobukiya ARTFX Premier Immortal Hulk StatueDespite the fact that this is a no-buy for me, there’s a lot to appreciate about this piece. The powerful pose of Hulk smashing the ground beneath him is a dynamic look that we don’t see all that often for Hulk statues, and the stony base’s level of paint and sculpting is wonderful. It may be plastic, but that base looks every bit as good as a resin one!

Meanwhile, Hulk himself impressed on every level. The texture of his shorts, the horrific portrait that has the slightest bit of a Frankenstein’s Monster feel, the complex musculature… this is a really magnificent Hulk Statue. It’s really just a shame about the price for the size/material.

Kotobukiya Hulk ARTFX Premier PVC StatueThe Kotobukiya ARTFX Premier Hulk Statue is now up for order (discounted 15 bucks at BBTS!), and is scheduled to be released in late 2019. The piece is limited to 3500 pieces, which is generally a small LE for an ARTFX Statue, but I think a reasonable enough edition size for a PVC at this price-point.

Now that we’ve seen the official photos and specifications, what do you think about Kotobukiya’s new Hulk Premier Statue, Marvel collectors? Is any PVC statue of this size worth ~$200 to you? And what do you think of the Marvel ARTFX Premier Collection in general? Does the enhanced detail warrant the new pricing, or are you missing the classic, cheaper ARTFX+ pieces already?
