Kotobukiya Domino Bishoujo Statue (1/7 PVC Figure) Up for Order!

Kotobukiya Marvel Bishoujo collectors have had a rather boring last few years, as the last time a new character went up for order was in 2017—and that Captain Marvel Bishoujo figure was cancelled until further notice and has never come out at all. But patience is a virtue, and the line lives on: after appearing in unpainted form at New York Toy Fair 2019, the Kotobukiya Domino Bishoujo Statue is now up for order!

Kotobukiya Domino Bishoujo Statue PaintedAfter spending most of her existence in collectibles obscurity, Domino has had a pretty busy last few years. She got a new Hasbro Marvel Legends figure, resin statues from Sideshow Collectibles and Diamond Select Toys, a movie appearance in Deadpool 2, her own (short-lived) comic book series by Gail Simone… and now a Koto Bishoujo PVC figure (loosely) based on the aforementioned comic book!

When the prototype of Neena was still unpainted when I saw it at New York Toy Fair 2019 last month, I figured her pre-order was still a while away from opening up. But turns out that “a while” was just a few weeks, because she’s up for sale now online!

Side View of Kotobukiya Bishoujo Domino UnpaintedI’m actually glad that I had the opportunity to view and photograph that unpainted grey prototype of this figure at Toy Fair, as it can be a lot easier to see various subtle details in the sculpt before a piece moves on to the painting phase.

Bishoujo Domino Illustration by Shunya YamashitaI wasn’t entirely sold on this statue design when we saw the original Shunya Yamashita illustration concept art for it, as I thought it made Domino look far too naive and cherubic for such a hardened character. The actual portrait doesn’t look quite as cutesy, though, so I’m able to be a bit more on-board with it.

Toy Fair 2019 Koto Domino Bishoujo Rear ViewYou can see the wrinkles on the costume on Neena’s chest and, uh… rear… quite well in the grey prototype, as well as certain areas of musculature on her body that we might overlook in colored form.

New York Toy Fair 2019 Kotobukiya Domino Bishoujo StatueThere is some bad news, though, and I imagine it may be a jumping-off point for many fans of this Bishoujo Marvel series: the MSRP on Domino is set at $99.99, making her the single most expensive character in the line to-date.

For a 1/7th scale PVC plastic statue that’s not exactly overly complicated, a $100 MSRP is pretty damning. This is a different collecting landscape than when Koto began this line, and with vastly cheaper PVC pieces available from competitors like Diamond Select Toys, I’ll be very curious to see how successful this figure ends up being. We very well may be approaching the end of this series.

Close-Up of Domino Kotobukiya Bishoujo FigureThe Domino Kotobukiya Bishoujo Statue is now up for order online with a $10 PO discount, and is scheduled to ship in October 2019. This will be the first new Marvel Bishoujo released in two years when it ships, so hopefully (for Koto) there’s still a voracious collector base out there waiting to gobble this piece up.

What do you think of the latest entry in the Bishoujo Marvel Statue series? Is Domino worth looking twice at, or does her $100 MSRP turn you off? With the line’s apparent price increase to $100 per figure, are you jumping ship or are you in it for the long haul?
