It took Hot Toys several years more than most fans expected for the second figure in the Hot Toys Star Wars figure line–Han Solo–to finally go up for order. But–! Perhaps as a “make well” present to their fans, Hot Toys is putting their next figure up for order on the same day as Han Solo. And this isn’t just any Star Wars Hot Toys Sixth Scale figure–it’s the figure that Star Wars sixth scale fans have been begging for for years: the Hot Toys Chewbacca Sixth Scale Figure goes up for order this afternoon!

Oh, wow. Now this? This is unexpected. After Sideshow Collectibles has literally insisted for over half a decade that an authentic, top-quality Chewbacca 1/6th scale figure is impossible, Hot Toys has stepped up to the Star Wars license and hit a grand slam out of the ballpark instantly. The result? What is very likely the hands-down greatest Chewbacca toy ever made!

Although Hot Toys refers to their 12″-scale line as the “Movie Masterpiece Series”, that title isn’t always totally appropriate. This time…? This time it is. If there’s a word for the Hot Toys Chewbacca figure other than “masterpiece”, it truly don’t know what that word would be!

Just look at the MMS 262 Chewbacca figure! The way that the fur drapes all over the body, the picture-perfect authenticity of Chewbacca’s head, and the life-like accuracy of Chewbacca’s bandolier! What Hot Toys has created here for Star Wars collectors is an outright miracle.

Hot Toys could have taken the easy way out and produced a fully-plastic sixth scale Chewbacca (it’s not like other companies haven’t before), but instead they put what must be hundreds upon hundreds of development hours into doing the impossible and making the Hot Toys Chewbacca covered in brown fabric hair look spectacular.

Like most Hot Toys 1/6 figures, the Hot Toys MMS262 Chewbacca figure will come with every feasible accessory that makes sense for the character, including Chewabacca’s bowcaster, bandolier, bandolier bag, alternate hands, a headset (to match Han Solo’s!), and a figure display stand with his name on it. Other than a Dejarik table, I really don’t know what other accessories one would give an A New Hope Chewbacca figure!

Of course, Chewie’s scale is absolutely crucial to how well he’s been executed. Luckily, Hot Toys scaled Chewbacca absolutely perfectly–at 36cm tall (a little over 14″), the Chewbacca Hot Toys figure looks spot-on towering over the Hot Toys Han Solo figure!

The Hot Toys Chewbacca and Han Solo sixth scale figures go up for order this afternoon on the Sideshow Collectibles website, and are scheduled to ship in 2015. Given that there’s a limited Sideshow Exclusive Han Solo edition with an extra pair of accessories and that Chewbacca just may be the most-demanded 1/6 Star Wars figure ever, I do expect this duo to sell out long before they ship. Lock in now if your sixth scale galaxy won’t be complete without Han Solo and his furry sidekick!
