FIRST LOOK: WizKids Star Trek HeroClix Away Team The Original Series Lt. Sulu

-Scott Rubin

This has been a super fun week checking out the upcoming Star Trek HeroClix Away Team The Original Series expansion from WizKids.  We started on Monday with a full brick unboxing, following up with individual figure reveals each successive day with super rares Charvanek the Romulan Commander and the creature Yarnek, plus the chase Captain Kirk.  Today we’ve got your final preview and another chase figure from the set, the swashbuckling 050 Lt. Sulu!

Like his commanding officer this figure is based on his appearance in the episode The Naked Time in which a unique complex chain of molecules infects the Enterprise crew, making them do all sorts of crazy things.  Sulu in particular went a bit mad, taking on the mannerisms of a Three Musketeers-like 17th century swashbuckler!  He swings a deadly rapier with a cool translucent swishing effect behind it, fighting shirtless with just black pants and boots.

Chase Lt. Sulu shares even more similarities with fellow chase Captain Kirk, starting with his 50 point cost, 0 range, and United Federation of Planets team ability.  He also has the same trait (this time called “A Swashbuckler at Heart”) so if he’s on your Sideline an active figure named Lt. Sulu can use a free action to switch out for this one for one turn, once per game!  His movement track is broken up into thirds, starting with Charge then going to Sidestep, and finally Flurry.  Half his dial has Combat Reflexes and the rest Defend, and his attack and defense values are great.  At first you might be put off by his solid 1 damage dial, but note that every click has a special attack power giving him Blades/Claws/Fangs and the ability to use it for free if he hasn’t moved this turn!  Again, this is going to be a very useful figure to swap out when your range-focused Sulu is based or has powers outwitted, or you can use him for a solid melee attacker on your starting team.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this look at this chase Lt. Sulu, and all of the other figures we’ve shared this week!  Star Trek HeroClix Away Team The Original Series expansion set is coming in just a couple weeks, and then you can get your hands on all of these awesome figures.  Good luck with your pulls!
