FIRST LOOK: WizKids Games Star Trek Attack Wing Federation Upgrades

-Scott Rubin

Our Star Trek Attack Wing previews have shown you some really cool content on the way for the Dominion, Klingons, and Romulans, and now for our final reveal we’re going to look at the Federation faction with four upgrade cards!

17 of 36 - Christopher Hobson

The first Crew upgrade we’ve got today is the return of Data’s bigoted first officer on the Sutherland, Christopher Hobson.  His previous version was a 4 point upgrade that required an Action to gain +1 attack die when firing at a cloaked ship.  Not only is the new Hobson half as expensive at 2 points, but he does even more; his ability says that whenever his ship fires on a cloaked vessel it rolls 2 fewer defense dice!  He may not have been the nicest guy, but Chris will be a valuable addition to your force when facing cloaking opponents.

19 of 36 - Deanna Troi

Another new 2 point Crew upgrade is everyone’s favorite ship’s counselor, Deanna Troi!  While the previous version of the empathic half-Betazoid was used to shut down enemy captains or crew, this new one can sense your opponent’s plans and let you anticipate them.  Before the end of the Planning Phase after all ships have their maneuvers set you can discard Deanna to look at how two enemy ships will be moving, and then her ship can change its maneuver!  Whether you’re trying to pull off an alpha strike, get out of a hairy situation, or disrupt an enemy’s coordinated maneuvers Troi is the empath for you.

18 of 36 - Beverly Crusher

The last Crew upgrade we’re revealing today is another TNG star, Beverly Crusher!  In this case the new version does pretty much exactly what the old one did, though with the new wordings and symbols.  The 3 point upgrade has two uses.  First, during the Activation phase you can disable her to remove a Disabled token from another Crew upgrade on your ship.  Or, as an action you can discard Beverly to return a discarded Crew upgrade (4 points or less) to her ship.  As a back-up for your Crew there’s no one better, and she combos well with upgrades that have to be disabled or discarded.

32 of 36 - Tactical Station

The final preview we have is the Starfleet Weapon upgrade known as the Tactical Station.  Like Crusher above this is the return of a classic and beloved upgrade that does pretty much the same thing but with the new card wording and layout.  The 4 point card provides its ship with an additional Weapon upgrade slot, and can be used in two different ways when attacking.  If you disable the Station, your ship rolls +1 attack die this round, and if you discard it your ship rolls +2 attack dice this round!  The upgrade is a bit expensive to tack onto a weaker ship to bolster its offensive capability, but mounted on an already powerful vessel the Tactical Station can make it truly deadly.

We hope you’ve enjoyed all of our Star Trek Attack Wing reveals these last couple weeks, and a big thanks goes out to WizKids Games for sharing these with us.  As always we’ll continue sharing Attack Wing news and reviews right here on Figures.com!
