FIRST LOOK: WizKids Games Star Trek Attack Wing Card Packs Wave 3 Previews

-Scott Rubin

With New York Toy Fair barely in our collective rearview mirror WizKids is forging ahead with their aggressive Star Trek Attack Wing release schedule, and today we’ve got a look at several of the cards you’ll find in the upcoming wave 3 Card Packs.  These include the Antiproton Blast and Vorta Commander from the Jem’Hadar Attack Ship Card Pack and the Gorn Starship, Slar, and Gorn Trooper from the Gorn Raider Card Pack!  Check out all of these cards below and learn how you can add to and customize your fleet with these new packs.

12 of 12 - Antiproton Blast

The Jem’Hadar of the Dominion have gotten a ton of new resources with the recently released Faction Pack, and now players of the Gamma Quadrant aggressors have even more tools with the Card Pack.  Our first preview today is the Antiproton Blast.  Just one of the Dominion’s advanced technologies, this burst of energy allows Jem’Hadar ships to penetrate the cloaking devices of enemy vessels.  In the game this translates to a 2 point Tech upgrade that is discarded during the Activation Phase in order to let its ships and ALL friendly ships within Range 1 to Target Lock cloaked ships this round!  It’s powerful though situational, and arguably a big upgrade over the previous Antiproton Scan.

4 of 12 - Vorta Commander

Next up is the Vorta Commander, just one of the many clones used by the Founders to staff and command their vessels and lead the Jem’Hadar.  This one is a 5 skill Captain costing 3 points with a pretty nifty special ability.  After his ship performs a green maneuver it can Target Lock for free!  This is going to come in especially handy with ships blasting away with secondary weapons using up Target Lock tokens.

2 of 14 - Gorn Starship

The Gorn, on the other hand, have not received nearly as much love in Star Trek Attack Wing, but their appearances have been unique with the Organized Play kit prize ship S’Gorn and the Wave 13 Raider known as the Gornarus.  The card pack Gorn Starship generic vessel is shockingly better than its predecessors for significantly fewer points!  It has the same stats (3 Primary Attack, 1 Agility, 3 Hull, and 3 Shields) and the same Action Bar (Evade, Target Lock, Scan, and Battle Stations), with superior Upgrade options (adding a Weapon slot to the previous ships’ Tech and Crew slots).  All of that costs only 14 points compared to the old versions’ 20!

5 of 14 - Slar

Two Crew upgrades for the Gorn are the animalistic Slar and the Gorn Trooper.  The former is a 5 point upgrade that can really do some damage; as an Action you can remove it from play to disable a Crew upgrade on a nearby enemy ship AND deal it a Critical Damage!  The latter is an interesting “troop builder” mechanic.  Each Trooper costs 2 points and for every one on a ship its captain’s skill goes up 1 point.  You can also disable the Gorn Trooper to re-roll 1 attack die when attacking.

6 of 14 - Gorn Trooper
