#AquaMonday – @CollectDST Aquaman DC Gallery PVC Diorama

With the Aquaman movie recently crossing the $1billon world wide mark I figured it was time to take a victory lap and get back on the AquaMonday train!   We can all celebrate some Aqua-awesomness in the form of some great new Aquaman products that are now available.

I know I normally do these a videos, but I ran into some tech trouble with my laptop last week and I wanted to get this posted this week, so we are going with an old school photo feature!

My friends over at Diamond Select Toys know of my love of all things Aquaman, and over the past few years they have allowed us to break news of new Aquaman products here on AFi, as well as sometimes sending us said product to add into the Aquacollection.   Just before the end of 2018 I received a box that contained the brand new DST Aquaman DC Gallery PVC Diorama.

The DC Gallery line of PVC dioramas now adds the King of Atlantis, Aquaman! Springing from the sea with his trident poised to attack, Arthur Curry is the subject of this 9-inch-scale diorama, wearing his classic orange-and-green outfit. Made of a high-quality plastic, and featuring a detailed sculpt and exacting paint applications, it comes packaged in a full-color window box. Hand-sculpted by Jean St. Jean!

This piece made it’s original debut last year at New York Toy Fair when Diamond announced the line.  Let’s take a look at that piece now…

THE PACKAGE:

The packaging is really phenomenal using and playing of the colors and patterns of Aquaman’s costume.   The PVC diorama is clearly visible from the outside with large windows in the front, side and top of the package which lets a lot of light in to help highlight the piece on store shelves.

THE DIORAMA:

The technology has advanced to greatly in the molding and casting of PVC now that you can get an equally dynamic and detailed piece that can absolutely rival what was previously only available in resin or polystone.  DST has really carved out a great, affordable nitch in the DC Entertainment license with these new 9″ scale dioramas.    Their dynamic posing, use of different materials and price make it an easy choice to start picking these up and adding them to your collection.

In the Aquaman statue, sculpted by be buddy Jean St. Jean, we see Arthur Curry leaping from the ocean on a wave with his trident over his head getting ready of stab down some two-handed justice!  The use of the translucent PVC for the wave combined with their use of paint both on the crest of the wave as well as the costume make this statue pop in some surprising ways that can truly be appreciated seeing this piece first hand.   It’s delightful that DST was able to use a more classic version of the costume (even if it is from ReBirth) as opposed to the New 52 costumes that some licensors as still being forced to use by WB.

THE DETAILS:

Here is a closer look at some of the details of the piece.  I think these really help showcase the quality of the piece and the detail they are now capable of being able to capture in the PVC material now.

The Aquaman DC Gallery PVC Diaorama is available now at your local comic book shop through Diamond Previews or you can order it directly from Diamond Select Toys here at this link.
